Model Write-Up #3 - Traitor Guardsman

"Not every guardsman of the Imperium of Man was able to be cajoled by commissars, priests, and their superiors. Some were tempted by another authority - the Dark Gods of Chaos. Whether from violence, intellect, lust or disgust of all living things, guardsmen could be turned to the forces of Chaos perhaps the most easily of all the Imperium's proxies. Those that did often occupied a fairly low position in the hierarchy of Chaos - acting as servants to the Traitor Legions, or as cannon fodder, one rung below even the lowly cultist. Some guardsmen, however, formed bands of their own - Renegades, travelling the cosmos, spreading their dark ideology independent of the support of a Traitor Legion. Whilst not as fearsome a force as a fully organised Warband, a contingent of Renegades could still hold entire worlds hostage, and for those far removed from the sphere of influence of the Space Marine Chapters, there was little hope. Some practised their unholy religion upon themselves, adorning their skin and armour with tattoos, markings, piercings, and all manner of diabolic imagery. Others kept their armour as clean and pristine as the day they had first received it - a final insult to the "False Emperor", that the carapace that once fought in his name now terrorised his subjects. Traitor Guardsmen were not, perhaps, the most fearsome foe the Imperium had to face, but they were among the most insidious..."
