"Dirk Jackal was, through and through, a pyromaniac. He had spent the first ten years of his life playing with fire and getting burned as a result. He had grown up under middle-class citizens on a colony world - Braken V - but they spent little time supervising him, and so it fell to his babysitter to take the blame for his behaviour. The day after his twelfth birthday, she locked him in a room to stop him getting at candles and such laid around the house. Little did she know, he had snuck a match into the room, and proceeded to start a house fire that claimed the life of his babysitter and burnt the house to the ground. He was burned irreparably and, for the ordeal, his parents disowned him and left him to an adoption home. His track record meant none of the visitors were willing to adopt him, and he spent years there alone. When he was nineteen, he was removed officially from the adoption home and thrown onto the streets. He was picked up by an aging Mandalorian mercenary by the name of Carlus Jackal. Not remembering his last name, Dirk took Carlus' and became his adoptive son. Carlus taught Dirk everything he knew and trained him to succeed him. At the age of twenty five, Dirk had become a proficient man with many weapons, although his favourites were his wrist-mounted flamethrower and other incendiary weapons. Carlus passed away a few years later when undiagnosed pancreatic cancer got the better of him, and Dirk mourned him by cremating his body, and keeping the ashes. He then took Carlus' armour, as he had been instructed, and used his training to make a name for himself. He was hired for jobs in which his employers wanted noting to remain of their target - for everything within the vicinity to be nothing but black, charred ashes. He was extremely proficient at these "burn to the ground" jobs, and eventually came to be a fairly well-known and well-off mercenary. When Mandalore the Crusader sent out his call to join his crusade of the Outer Rim, he, at first, ignored the call - Dirk had no interest in duty, only in using the fire he so loved in whatever way he could. However, it occurred to him that someone like the Crusader could probably help him track down his parents so that he could finally take vengeance for their abandonment. Thus, he joined the Cruader's cause.
When the Mandalorian clans and forces were stranded in the Unknown Regions, he grew hopeless and, feeling that he might never get the chance to take his vengeance, opted to take his own life. However, Mandalore the Infernal, in need of allies, convinced Dirk that with him, he could find ample joy in burning his enemies, and that the Infernal would find a way to return to the wider galaxy. Seeing no other option, Dirk agreed, and joined the Infernal's forces."
