"Captain Vindictive was one of the most well-known heroes in the 187th forces stationed within the Outer Rim. His first assignment, as a trooper, had been to escort a dignitary through a highly sensitive political environment - two factions on a planet had been at war for decades, and at the height of the Clone Wars, the Republic needed this planet on their side. Vindictive had heard ahead of time that an enemy assassin was going to make their move, but he was ten steps ahead - the dignitary had been informed but was told to kept quiet, and every member of the party had been sworn to silence on the matter. When the assassin made their move, they were almost instantly detained and it was found who they were working for. Impressed with Vindictive's strategic victory, the 187th Clone Marshall had him promoted to a squad leader. In his next engagement, Vindictive led a coup de grace against a Separatist force three times larger than his by sending in a protocol droid to infiltrate - his droid disabled the majority of the droid force, and Vindictive's men were numerous and well-trained enough to tackle those remaining. Vindictive's skill as a tactician is what earned him the respect he gained from others. He worked closely with Jedi Padawan Kellin during this time, who personally attested to Vindictive's skill in battlefield strategy when what looked like a certain defeat was turned to a victory by Vindictive's well-planned approach; by pulling back his main force but leaving behind enough explosives to daze the droid armies of his rival general, Vindictive was able to circle around and catch the droids away from supply lines, many of them being at minimal capacity due to their distance from command towers. With this success, he was promoted from a sergeant to a captain, and instructed to lead a 187th battalion in an attack on a well-defended Separatist position on Mekel III. Here, he met his tactical match - his rival was well-aware of Vindictive's skill and had ordered his droids to make no tactical advances. Vindictive's forces seemed forced into a long and bloody siege, but Vindictive shocked both the enemy forces and his own by surrendering. Once he was taken in, he gave up his helmet to his rival as a trophy - the latter of whom did not suspect he had rigged the helmet to explode. It did so, badly wounding Vindictive but throwing the Separatist garrison into disarray, allowing the 187th to take the capital city. Vindictive was rushed back to Kamino for healing and, after a few weeks in stasis in a bacta tank, he recovered. Congratulated for his efforts, Vindictive was granted EVO Trooper honours - one down from ARC, but with the promise that if he kept performing at his standard, he would be one soon. He would never take the offer - Vindictive was at home in the planning room, and so long as he was there, a key asset of the Republic would continue to make a difference where it mattered."
